National Dental Care MonthHow to Make the Most of National Dental Care Month

As early as the 1900s, preventative dental care and health have been promoted. As understanding increased, so did the amount of promotion. Today, the importance of oral care is taught from a young age. In 2018, National Dental Care Month became an official “holiday,” helping us all remember to take better care of our teeth. With an entire month dedicated to dental health care, we figured a few tips on how to get the most out of the month wouldn’t go amiss.

Schedule an Appointment

If you haven’t seen a dentist in a while, make sure you schedule an appointment. If you have seen a dentist recently, make sure you have your next six-month checkup scheduled. Dentists visits aren’t terribly expensive–especially if you have dental insurance. However, neglecting your dentist visits can lead to dental problems, and those could start adding up.

Practice Makes Permanent

If you haven’t already, start now to work with your children on implementing good dental habits into your daily routine. Brushing should start when your child’s first tooth erupts, so from an early age. Starting when they’re babies and continuing through toddler and pre-school age can help instill good habits in children and lead them to take care of their teeth by themselves when they’re old enough.

Learn Proper Techniques

Proper dental care requires proper techniques. You should brush your teeth for at least two minutes twice a day. Flossing daily is also important to promote healthy gums and clean the parts of your teeth that are unreachable by a toothbrush alone. When you brush, don’t push too hard or you could damage your enamel and wear down your teeth. And don’t forget to brush your tongue and behind your teeth as well!

National Dental Care Month is a great opportunity to keep up to date on your oral health and make sure your children are taking proper care of their teeth. If you need to schedule an appointment, you can do so by visiting us online and filling out our online form.
